Name

The awards are called the 'World Leadership Awards'. This name is protected by © copyright.

Organiser

The World Leadership Awards are organised by The World Leadership Forum of Warnford Court, 29 Throgmorton Street, London, EC2N 2AT, United Kingdom.

Purpose

The purpose of the awards is to identify exceptional leadership in cities across the world and to use that leadership as an example and inspiration to other cities facing similar problems.

Criteria

Cities will be judged on the following criteria:

Timetable

Presentation Ceremony Venue

Royal Lancaster, London W2

Presentation Ceremony Date

Friday, 12th December 2008, from 8:00 pm.

Attendance at Presentation Ceremony

Delegations from shortlisted cities must attend the presentation ceremony. For further details contact the organisers.

Categories

Awards will be made in each of the following 15 categories:

As well as giving individual awards in fifteen different categories, the judges will also be declaring four cities to be City of the Year for their region:

African City of the Year
American City of the Year
Asia-Pacific City of the Year
European City of the Year

The winners of these four special titles will be chosen by the judges from the winners of the fifteen specialist categories

Entrants

The entrants will primarily be city authorities e.g. mayor's offices, municipalities, councils, corporations, local governments, legislatures, police forces, official committees, boards, or other governing bodies (in the case of city states, e.g. Singapore or Luxembourg, they may also be national governments).

However, other groups which have shown clear leadership within their cities may also enter; e.g. companies, associations, societies, partnerships, institutions, clubs, professional bodies, professional practices, pressure groups, political parties, campaigns, charities or other organisations.

Individuals may also enter, as long as they clearly represent a city but, if successful, the award will presented to that city, not to an individual

Entries

Entrants must submit the electronic ENTRY FORM which appears on this website.

Entries will be acknowledged within three working days.

Entrants will then be asked to send the organisers an electronic document, written in English, of up to 5,000 words, describing a project recently undertaken by your city which you believe shows exceptional leadership.

This document may include diagrams, photographs and charts. Data contained in diagrams, charts or photographs will not be deducted from the 5,000 word total.

This can be emailed directly to us at info@world-leadership-forum.org or sent on a CD to us at:

Definitions

A 'city' is defined as a clearly-demarcated urban area, anywhere in the world, with a residential population of more than half a million people (this figure may include the populations of neighbouring communities linked to the city by continuous built-up areas, irrespective of local administrative boundaries).

'Leaders' are defined as people who - within the last year - have occupied a clearly definable leadership position on behalf of a city, in one or more of the areas recognised by the awards.

Organisation

The World Leadership Awards are organised by The World Leadership Forum. Please contact us for further information.

Return of Entries

Entries will not normally be returned.

Care of Material

While reasonable care will be taken, the organisers will not accept any responsibility or liability for entries which are lost or damaged.

Shortlist

A shortlist of between two and four cities in each category will be published on this website in October 2008.

Publication of non-shortlisted cities

The list of cities which fail to reach the shortlists will remain confidential and will not be published at any time.

Disputes or Appeals

The decisions of the judges will be final. All entrants must agree to be bound by them and they will not be subject to any appeal. Neither the judges, nor the organisers, are obliged to publish the reasons for their judgments, or enter into any correspondence with the entrants, or their representatives.
